Along the warmer waters of the East Coast off Natal lies the Fossilized Sand Dune known as Aliwal Shoal. This site has been a regular visitor in the various diving publications top 10 places to dive in the world. The Shoal is stunning in its diversity. It is home to one of the Largest aggregations of Sand Tigers in the World and has been declared a Marine Protected Area. Blue Water Shark drift diving was pioneered here and Tiger Sharks are regular and popular visitors.
Based out of Scottburgh our shark diving takes place all year. We use bait stems for a thrilling 3D shark experience where pelagic Blacktips, Tiger, Bull or Zambezi’s as we call them and sometimes even the odd Great White come to the divers. Our professional instructors and safety divers ensure a safe, once in a lifetime experience.
During the winter months, from about May onwards the Raggies or Sand Tigers make an appearance. These placid sharks are here to pup which makes them extremely docile. Upwards of 20-30 sharks can be seen in locations such as Raggie Cave, Shark Alley or our personal favourite Cathedral. They are very curious so if you stay still they will approach extremely close to you which makes for great photo ops.
Another fantastic feature of these dives are the resident Potato Bass, are as we call them The “Gangsta” Bass. They are large, extremely curious and really like ikelite strobes!
